Mental Health First Aid Training
Join us on Wednesday, April 1, from 9 AM to 5 PM at LaGuardia Community College, CUNY (31-10 Thomson Avenue, Long Island City, NY) for a free in-person Mental Health First Aid training and certification class.
This course teaches adults (18+) how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders, and provides practical skills to support someone who may be developing a mental health challenge or experiencing a crisis. Research shows the program increases knowledge of warning signs, improves confidence in helping someone in distress, helps participants connect others with appropriate resources, and can even improve their own mental wellness.
The training will be led by Dr. Juline Koken, Professor and Director of the Mental Health: Human Services program at LaGuardia Community College. A social and health psychologist, Dr. Koken’s research focuses on stigma, mental and sexual health, and the experiences of sex workers.
Participants who complete the training will receive Mental Health First Aid certification, valid for three years, with a downloadable certificate available through the Mental Health First Aid Connect website.
