On November 2, the New York City Hemophilia Chapter Dads in Action committee reunited and brought together several dads and caregivers throughout the community.  Dads and caregivers met up to share experiences and provide support and encouragement to each other. They also spent time reflecting on everything this resilient community has achieved.  Just as each of our children’s experience with Hemophilia is diverse and distinct, so to is the way in which each family copes with the disorder.  For this reason, Dads come together to create a forum for support and camaraderie.
As dad’s and caregivers, we realize that we need to be strong advocates for our children’s health.  NYCHC Dads in Action is exactly that, Dads taking action in the care of our children. To facilitate this, some of the key principles are understanding the value of educating ourselves and people outside the community on this rare disorder, our ability to administer medication, navigate insurance policies, understand patient rights, educate the medical community, deal with pain management, stay informed on the latest treatments and being there for our spouses and other children.  At its core, we are Dads who just want to be there for our children, to not only help them grow, prosper and prevail over any challenge, but more importantly conquer this disorder and have them reach for their limitless dreams.

The committee continues to recruit members in order to address the wide variety of issues each of our individual families encounter.  Dad’s in Action is currently planning activities for 2019.  Come be a part of it.  Building and strengthening the bonds between children and their fathers is our paramount goal. With some fun, laughter, smiles and lots of love, we can make our future brighter.
Please look out for our upcoming events.  Please contact us at info@nyhemophilia.org if you would like to join or participate.
