THE CHP BILL PASSED IN THE SENATE! WE DID IT!

 In Uncategorized

The bill mandating coverage for outpatient clotting factor under the state’s Child Health Plus program (S2186/A0962) has just passed unanimously in the New York State Senate. Although there are still a few necessary formalities including the Governor’s signature, for all intents and purposes this legislation is now law. Child Health Plus is now a viable coverage option for children with bleeding disorders in New York State.

This was a three-year effort involving the participation of many groups and individuals working together across the state, including everyone who visited Albany, met with legislators, called or wrote letters, or advocated in other ways. Congratulations to all.

Please consider writing notes of thanks to your elected officials in Albany. You don’t need to say a lot. It can be as simple as:

Dear Senator (or Assembly Member):

Thank you for passing S2186/A0962 mandating coverage for outpatient clotting factor under the state’s Child Health Plus program. As a New York State Family (or family in your district) affected by a bleeding disorder, we appreciate this effort to ensure that all children in the state have access to healthcare they need to live long, healthy lives.

We will provide additional information once the Governor’s signature is affixed. We will also provide information about this and other new coverage options as they become available in the near future. For now, we just wanted to take this moment to celebrate and say thank you.
