Photography for the Moment Workshop

In Mental Health, NYCHC Events, VWD, Women

Photography offers wonderful opportunities for mindfulness in your daily life. The process of increased awareness helps bring tangible benefits like calming the mind and providing relief from stress. Studies have shown that a person’s perspective on themselves and the world can be gradually explored and changed through the process of taking photographs, analyzing them and discussing with others.

We are excited to host a three-part workshop about the healing power of photography and how it can help us better express, understand and overcome personal challenges. Professional photographer, Alex Benyon, will lead us through a three-part workshop to learn about his experience finding healing through photography. See his work here.

This workshop is designed to increase conversations about mental wellness through photography. You will learn new skill and hopefully make some new friends along the way. Attendees are expected to attend all three sessions. During this three week workshop, Alex will share tips to help you create and learn about the following styles of photography:

  1. Sunday, May 23 at 11 AM: Street Photography
  2. Sunday, June 6 at 11 AM: Documentary Photography
  3. Sunday, June 20 at 11 AM: Self Portraits

Participants can use their cell phone camera to take photos, or any other camera that they own. While we would love for you to share the photos that you take with us, this is not required.
