Honoring Ellen F Schoenfeld

The New York City Hemophilia Chapter (NYCHC) mourns the loss of Ellen Schoenfeld and honors the Schoenfeld family through this page. Ellen supported and came to love the hemophilia community through the birth of her twin grandchildren, Max and Eli, now 16 years of age, both of whom have severe hemophilia b.

The Schoenfeld family has always been highly involved in the community from the moment the boys were born. Most recently, Max has leaned on his passion for baseball to creatively raise funds for the organization and inspire others to challenge perceived physical limitations associated with his rare bleeding disorder. Eli has taken a leadership role of his own, helping to conceive and launch NYCHC’s Teen PULSE program. Both Max and Eli have also taken their voices to Capitol Hill, where they have participated for consecutive years in Washington advocacy days. Their father, Brad, Ellen’s son, was a long-standing board member and former president of the organization. Brad, along with his wife Lisa, celebrated the community and their family through their “Schoeny Crew” team supporting NYCHC’s Annual Walk event.

Ellen, along with her husband, Howie, made a commitment to supporting Max, Eli, Brad and Lisa in their family’s hemophilia journey through NYCHC’s Walks, Galas and general events. They were always present, and dozens followed. Overall, they celebrated their family through NYCHC.

Today, in turn, NYCHC celebrates the Schoenfeld Family and memorializes Ellen. Rainbow bagels may never taste the same at the Walk without her, but her spirit shines bright with NYCHC and her family through all its colors, inspiring the next generation of community members and future leaders.

Donations received in Ellen’s honor will support the NYC Hemophilia Chapter’s mission to provide resources and hope to persons with bleeding disorders, their caregivers, and their families.
